Dennis Edwards splits from the Temptations; they leave Motown for Atlantic but Gordy keeps this secret till the group's debut LP on the new label is announced. In a separate move, the group's long-time producer Norman Whitfield leaves Motown, taking the Undisputed Truth and Rose Royce to set up his own label.
